By the end of this course:
You’ll be comfortable and intentional when activating the canvas. Your mark making will be both spontaneous and expressionistic and they’ll participate in the cohesiveness of the finished artwork. It’s not just a warm up or lost layer!
You’ll have a handle on composition. Critical aspects of a brilliant painting will be cemented in your mind, such as focal point, shape, and proportion. And you’ll understand how to handle contour and edges, which are a part of the secret sauce in an exciting composition.
Color and value will be your new BFFs. You can’t go from basic to brilliant without maximizing the power of color and value! I’ll show you my proven techniques to harness this power—no Master’s in color theory required (yawn!).
You’ll have a stack of painting quick-start guides that you created yourself, and you’ll know how to use them. While I’m all about painting intuitively, I believe that using these guides as a springboard leads to greater effectiveness. Which workout sounds more effective: going to the gym with a plan for “leg day” or going with a plan to “do whatever feels fun”? And it’s not like there aren’t tons of choices of exercises within “leg day.” These painting quick-start guides will maximize your painting time and make your paintings stronger, while maintaining your freedom of expression!
You’ll have valuable resources, such as my “painting nuggets” handout, which can keep you from drifting out of your lane of brilliance as you create your painting. Use it as your GPS guidance!
You’ll have a better handle on the process of creating a painting from beginning to end without getting stuck. You’ll know when to call your painting finished. You’ll also learn how to preserve your painting.
How does this course work?
Each week, you’ll receive video and written materials for the weekly module.
Caryl hosts live Zoom calls with you and the other participants to discuss the material and answer any questions. These zoom sessions take place three scheduled times during the six week course.
There will be a private Facebook group where you can post your exercises, artwork, and questions. This group will be a fun way to enjoy fellowship with your fellow artists and Caryl!

Q: Will I have access to the course materials after the class is over?
A: Yes, for twelve months!
Q: I may not want to participate in the Facebook group. Is that OK?
A: Participation in the Facebook group is a completely optional aspect of the course. You may certainly choose not to participate in this facet of the course for any reason.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: Refunds are available within 7 days after purchase. Your request must be made in writing and will be reviewed on an individual basis. Every effort is made to create a satisfying, valuable experience for the participants. Thank you for putting in your good faith effort and for your understanding.
Q: Will the live Zoom sessions be available for viewing later on?
A: Yes, sessions will be available in your portal within 24 hours following the sessions and then available to you until the course ends.

A little bit about me...During my previous career, finding the time to express myself through my art was limited. Between professional and family obligations, my creative endeavors had taken a back seat.
Once I had the opportunity to retire, I rekindled that creative spark and started painting feverishly. I spent multiple years studying with my favorite accomplished artists, reacquainted myself with new supplies, and experimented with multiple mediums. I made time daily to paint, and I gained confidence in myself and in my work. To this day I celebrate the moment I decided to reconnect with my creative self!
My "begin again" career as an artist & creative entrepreneur has afforded me special friendships, joyful experiences, challenges, and struggles too. I learned how to develop and grow a thriving painting practice and business of my very own.
